Cycling Weekly

KVRC South Lakes premier & Kendal's oldest road club hit the shelves in the glossy magazine Cycling Weekly.
At the start of March members met up with Cycling weekly's John Walsh.
The Sunday club run with our guests headed, out through the picturesque roads of Leven's towards Grange-over-Sands and the village of Cartmel.
This as with all club runs included a visit to a quality cafe with todays being the Mallard Tea rooms.
Well worth a read and copies are available now at all good newsagents near you, so grab a copy and another piece of Kent valley History.

Flat n Fast

Tonight saw the first of the flat & fast, TT's in the 10's series, which usually means fast times and a good field of riders.
Despite the unseasonable cold conditions which saw hail, sleet, snow and rain today, a good field turned out.
Fortune favored the brave with zero wind, sun and drying roads to give some excellent racing. Standout times this evening came from Juniors Adam Hartley &  Lewis Hartley of VCUK Inspire.

The Grand Divide...

The grand divide for KVRC today with riders in the Wigan 30 Lakes & Lanc's Spoco and the ultra classic Teesdale CRC Mountain time trial Spoco.
Duncan Orme & Judith Irving headed north to the tough Northern classic both in search of points for KVRC, whilst Tim Bennett held the fort down at Garstang.
With Kent Valley currently placing 6th overall in the series all is still to play, remember your club needs you..... the next Major date in the series :-  25th May 2016

Club run Sunday

Its club run Sunday again and time for KVRC members to head out on the weekly social, albeit the weeks sunshine took its usual vacation.

Meeting at the normal time of 9 am at the Kendal Leisure center today's ride headed off towards Burton-in Kendal and the lumpy roads of Capernwray, Caton and Cockerham.


Today's Sunday club run cafe of choice was the very welcoming and cycle friendly cafe Cafe d' Lune which is worth a visit.

The Sting in Garstang

This morning dazzling bright sunshine and blue sky coincided with Wigan Wheelers 10 TT down at Garstang on L101 circuit.
With a full field of riders and great condition's it all pointed towards some excellent times being posted.
KVRC's Peter Knott & Campbell West both put in good times but the standout time of the day came from Pedal Heaven's James Gullen.
The new course record set by James Gullen now stands at 19:17 taking the previous record from Sir Bradley Wiggins.

Rumble in the Jungle....

Tonight was the 2nd installment of the KVRC season of club time trials.
The rumble in the Jungle, the Jungle Cafe 12 mile Hilly TT, which climbs to the old site of the Jungle Cafe (Caravan Site) and back.
The excellent turn out of riders were certainly blessed with fantastic warm conditions making it a superb evenings time trialling, with riders posting excellent times throughout the evening.

Westmorland Tankard 2016

The cat 3/4 British Cycling 2016 edition of the classic North West road race the Westmorland Tankard was greeted this morning by perfect blue skies and dazzling sunshine.
The perfect conditions along with a full field of riders, made for some exciting racing on the historic Old Hutton circuit.


The circuit with its sharp bends, long climb and fast descents all added together for what was a tough fought out race with George Wharton of Salt Ayre Cogset taking the solo Victory.

Dr Spoco

The Lakes & Lancs Spoco party bus arrived in Ulverston to be greeted by almost perfect sunshine and light winds for round 9 of the series.
This years circuit was the classic hilly 21 mile circuit along the coast road towards Barrow, a slight change from last years circuit.  Round nines starting line up included Amanda Howard, Phil Shaw, Duncan Orme and Campbell West all gaining valuable points in the Spoco series.
The overall round and new course record was take by Craig Steele of Lakes Road Club with an outstanding time of 47:28

Club 10's Begin

This evening saw the open of KVRC's club time trial league which takes place over nineteen races, every Wednesday until the 31st August.  The series is held on a variety of varied courses around the
South Lakes, from the fast circuit of Levens, to the hilly course of Old Hutton.
Despite the cooler damp wet conditions a number of riders from the seasoned time trialist through to beginners, turned out for the social season opener, logging some good times considering the conditions.
The Next club 10 takes place on 20th April on the Jungle Cafe Circuit

Chase that Wild Boar....

Round 8 of the Lakes & Lancs Spoco series and the 1st of the inter clubs arrived with a bang today with dry sun drenched roads and snow capped mountains, making for almost alpine like conditions.
The classic circuit which is nestled in between some spectacular scenery attracted a strong field of riders from across the North with seventy seven signing on.
Kent Valley featured strongly across the line up with twelve riders, all putting in some outstanding
performances with standout female KVRC's Amanda Howards performance sealing 2nd place in the womens race.
Also for the 2nd year running the course record fell, being taken by Simon Bridge of Manchester Bicycle Club with an outstanding 1.08.32.

Way of the Dragon

Sunday the 3rd April marked the dawn of a new era for Kent Valley Road Club with the introduction of the first of six Audax events in 2016.
The Audax is open to all age and abilities and is a great way to enjoy some spectacular roads and hidden gems of the area.

Riders from a variety of clubs braved the cold damp start for the non competitive event and to share in the Italian tradition that dates back to the late nineteenth century.
The second event in the KVRC Audax series takes place on  Sunday 8th May, further details can be found at KVRC.
